Saudi Arabia announces new regulations for female dress code as the country is looking forward to welcome tourists from across the globe to experience the Kingdom’s rich culture and tradition. Foreign women travelling to Saudi Arabia will no longer have to wear abaya, the flowing cloak that has been a mandatory dress code for decades. However, they will be instructed to wear “modest clothing”, said Ahmed Al-Khateeb, chairman of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s key adviser.

The Kingdom has been undergoing rapid social and economic transformation over the past few years. It has gone as far from ending ban on women driving to the introduction of cinemas to granting permission for mixed gender concerts. In addition, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) announced that foreign men and women can now share hotel rooms without having to provide proof that they are related. Unaccompanied women, be it Saudis or foreigners can now stay in hotel rooms without the need of a male guardian, provided that they show their ID during check-in.

By opening itself to the world, the almost least explored Arabian country is expecting to attract at least 64 million tourists by 2022 and over 100 million tourists per year by 2030. The launch of the new tourist visa could attract travelers from around the world to explore the pristine islands, vast sand dunes, plateaus, beaches and historical sites and an often misunderstood culture.
