The Saudi Organisation for Certified Public Accountants (SOCPA) has announced that over 10,000 expatriates have registered as professional certified accountants and applied to join SOCPA, the Saudi Press Agency quoted.
In order to improve the quality and efficiency of the accountant professionals in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development (MLSD) has made it compulsory for expats working on accountant and complementary finance jobs to obtain accreditation and professional registration from SOCPA. Dr.Ahmed Bin Abdulla Al-Maghamis, the Secretary General of SOCPA, appreciated the quick response to the registration from expatriates across the country, which began earlier this month. SOCPA registration will be one of the conditions to be fulfilled by expatriates working in the accounting profession while submitting applications for issuance or renewal of work permits and amending professions.
SOCPA has made it conditional on applicants who wish to obtain bachelor’s degrees or a higher qualification in accountancy, a diploma or a qualification after gradation from one of the colleges of administrative sciences, that they should have completed at least 15 credit hours in accountancy. Moreover, they will be given a chance to complete their degree of diploma in one year.
