The Saudi capital is undergoing an unprecedented transformation as it aims to become a sustainable mega city in near future. It has launched the first phase of “Riyadh Green Program”, one of the most ambitious urban forestation projects in the world.
Green Riyadh is one of the four grand projects launched by King Salman on 19 March 2019, under the supervision of the Committee of Grand Projects chaired by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in line with the objectives of Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
During it’s first phase, the project will turn the capital city green by planting over 100,000 shrubs across 1.4 million square meters and also planting 31,000 trees along 144 km of main roads including King Salman Road, King Khalid Road, King Fahd Road, Makkah Al-Mukarramah Road, North Ring Road, and Eastern Ring Road.
The project will also include the creation of 48 major parks across Riyadh and 3,250 parks within residential neighborhoods, aimed at improving the lifestyle of citizens.
