The General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has dismissed rumors that expatriates leaving the Kingdom on final exit will be banned from re-entering the country for three years. Expatriates who have left the Kingdom on a regular basis, without being involved in any criminal case or legal issues at the time of exit, has the right to return on a new visa and take up a new job any time.
With regards to renewal of residency permits (iqama) of expatriates, the Jawazat clarified that the fine for delay in renewal of residency permit would be imposed three days after the the expiry date. A fine of SR 500 will be imposed for the delay in renewal for the first time. The second time, however, the fine will be increased to SR 1,000 and a delay in iqama renewal for the third time will result in deportation.
Moreover, the system permits the renewal of residency permit of expatriates only if the head of the family is inside the Kingdom, no matter if his other family members are inside or outside the Kingdom.
