Saudi Arabia’s General Sports Authority (GSA) on Sunday revealed the details of its new electronic visa programme, known as Sharek, which will offer a seamless ticket purchase and online visa application process for sporting fans from around the world wanting to experience the biggest festival of racing, live music and entertainment.

The official website, www.sharek.sa/formulae has gone live, allowing motor racing fans across the globe to travel to the Kingdom to attend the December 15 Formula E race, the Saudia Ad Diriyah E Prix to be held on the outskirts of Riyadh.

Tourists who buy a ticket for the race through this platform can obtain a 14-day visa for SR640 ($170) which allows them to attend the event as well as travel across certain territories of the Kingdom. However, the Holy cities of Makkah and Madinah will remain off-limits to non-Muslim travellers.

Applicants should complete their personal details online, upload a photograph and a copy of their passport, and wait for a few seconds to get the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Once payment is completed, international tourists will receive a copy of their visa through their email and this can be printed off and used to enter Saudi Arabia. However, international travellers are limited to one ticket per visa.
